Blitzen Home Solar Specifications

The system installed at the Blitzen home is a 2Kw grid tied system. It will provide aproximatlely 12 KW on a sunny day. The system is comprised of 12 Mitsubishi 165 watt panels and 1 Sunny Boy 2100 inverter. This system has no battery back-up. If the solar generated electricity is not being used by the household, then it will power the grid - running the meter backwards to receive credit for future use.

Net Metering

If you install a solar or wind generation system in your residence you may qualify for a net metering program through your local utility company. A customer interconnects their system to utility distribution system. The utility will credit the account for the electricity exported to the electric grid against charges for your electric usage. When you use net metering program program, the rate at which you will be charged (for the energy you take from the grid) or credited (for the energy you export) will depend on the rate schedule you choose.

Sunny Boy 2100 Inverter

The Sunny Boy power inverter was installed at this home. The new Sunny Boy 2100 is compatible with the SMA meters Sunny Beam and Sunny WebBox, allowing owners to view their solar system's energy savings from as close as their kitchen - to as far away as an internet café on the other side of the world.

SMA America designed the Sunny Boy 2100 in response to its customers' desire for economical, high-efficiency solar energy systems. "We took it on as a challenge," says SMA's Sam Vanderhoof, "and I think the Sunny Boy 2100 is a great solution."

SMA America says that the new inverter's entry-level price and clean design make it a strong choice for new home construction projects. The Sunny Boy 2100 is also attractive to Federally-funded tax credit programs. It is UL listed, and is now CEC (California Energy Commission) listed as well.

The company explains that the Sunny Boy 2100 is a sleek white inverter with state-of-the-art technology behind it.

"This system is great for people starting small, but who anticipate expanding in the future, " says Sam Vanderhoof, Director of Marketing for SMA America. "In fact, a system with two of these can handle 4,200 Watts easily and inexpensively."

"The government provides modest rebates for small systems," says Vanderhoof. "So installing a 2100-based system makes sound economic sense for homeowners and small businesses wanting to produce their own green energy.
